In this article, we’re going to be discussing what the best guitar octave processors are, that are available to buy in 2020.

However, as per usual, before we go straight into this, we want to make sure that all of our readers, especially the new guitarists, are familiar with exactly what a guitar octaver is, and the different types that are available.

Alongside this, we’re going to quickly talk about when a guitar octave processor would likely be used, so that you can really evaluate if it’s something that you want/need.

What is a Guitar Octave Pedal?

Guitar octave pedals are effects pedals that are able to generate a tone which is an octave above and below the frequency that a guitar is playing. So when you hear those raw and funky guitar shredding sounds, most likely an octave pedal is being used.

Some guitar octave pedals are even able to synthesize a greater range, accurately emulating a three-octave range.

Monophonic and Polyphonic Guitar Octave Pedals

Traditional guitar octave pedals have been monophonic and therefore this has meant that they can only process the effect for one frequency at a single time.

However, due to advancements in octave pedal technology and the quality of the internal processing units, some pedal manufacturers i.e Boss, have finally progressed to producing polyphonic bass octave pedals.

The Boss OC-3 was the first ever polyphonic bass octave pedal and remains a best-seller due to its high sound quality.

Analogue vs Digital Guitar Octave Pedals

Guitar octave pedals have until recently always been analogue octave pedals, but due to recent advancements in technology, particularly in the digital audio emulation of the warm analogue sounding effects pedals, digital guitar octave pedals have become more available and are an attractive solution.

So what’s the advantage of a digital octave pedal over an analogue one, well digital pedals have several advantages over analogue pedals, being able to process multiple frequencies simultaneously, with most analogue pedals operating on a simple frequency IIRC.

Another advantage of a digital effects pedal is that it can more efficiently monitor notes played, therefore making the processing of the desired octave effect more accurate to the frequency that is being synthesized.

What Does a Guitar Octave Pedal Do?

As we’ve previously discussed, guitar octave pedals or sometimes referred to as an effects pedal are used to synthesize a frequency or pitch that is an octave above or below the current played frequency. These are pretty similar to what a pitch fork would do back in the day, but a lot more advanced!

Octave pedals monitor the inputted signal from the guitar to create a frequency output that is an octave above or below the input signal; The original and synthesized signals are then mixed and sent to the output, allowing you to hear the desired sounding octave effect.

These octave pedals can be used alongside other guitar effects pedals, to create an audible masterpiece, both in the recording studio and within a live performance setting.

When to Use a Guitar Octave Pedal

Guitar octave pedals and effects pedals in general are particularly useful to provide a ‘bigger sound’, with the effect also being somewhat drone-like, artificial and unique. Similar to what a traditional pitch fork would have done.

Octave pedals are useful in numerous different settings, whether or not the guitarist is looking to provide a unique sound to a song, or looking to fill up the high-end frequency range (octave above), or the mid-bass range (octave below), it’s really up to the creativity and taste of the musician themselves. These pedals can be very useful and are more commonly used by guitarists on guitar solos.

So let’s get to it, what are the best guitar octave pedals of 2020?

Customer Review Rating

The Joyo JF-12 Voodoo Octave Guitar Pedal has received an average rating of 4* out of 5 stars from 445 Amazon customer review.

Summary

The Joyo JF-12 Voodoo Octaver pedal is the first product to feature in our list. This octave pedal is definitely a dark-horse, especially considering the unit is priced at roughly $30, and provides a range of functionality for the user… Let’s explore the unit further shall we!

Although we are here to talk about guitar octavers, and that’s what we are doing, this unit is primarily a fuzz pedal with octave functionality. With that being said, the fuzz knob can be turned completely to zero, but the device only allows for 1 octave above the current played frequency to be heard… Hence, you’re not able to play one or two octaves lower, and therefore this may not be for everyone. If you need to have the ability to play a wider range of octaves then I’d check out the Boss OC-3 which has quite the range for any level of play.

Additionally, the unit also has a ‘Tone’ knob, where the user can make adjustments to the overall tonality/shape of the output signal, and it also has a ‘Normal/Mid Cut’ switch, where the user can engage an optional mid-cut filter.

This octave pedal itself is encased in a metal chassis, and is certainly small enough to fit on most pedal boards. It requires a 9V power source, which can either be a 9V battery (not included) and/or a 9V Power Adapter (Not include – we’ve included a link in the ‘Technical Specifications’ section.

The unit provides True Bypass, meaning that the input/output signal is not interfered with when the processor is disengaged.

So how exactly does it sound?

As you can hear from the video demonstration, The Joyo JF-12 Voodoo Octaver pedal sounds particularly raw and overdriven when the unit’s ‘Fuzz’ control is turned up… We almost think that it sounds a little cheap… Therefore, if you’re looking at getting this unit, we recommend keeping this low in the mix.

You can hear the upper octave sound come through, although it’s somewhat distorted by the Fuzz effect.. Which may well be to some guitarist’s taste.

What would we improve?

Well, this unit is only $30, and for this you’re getting plenty of functionality! Therefore, considering the low price, any recommended improvements would likely affect the price, which is the primary USP.

Although it must be said, that we’re not really fans of the fuzz effect that this unit creates, so potentially improving the quality (making it a little less harsh) would be our suggestion.

Who is this pedal for?

These octave pedals are for the guitarist who’s on a budget, and wants an (upper only) octave pedal that also provides fuzz. This unit won’t sound like you’re a guitar god, but it’ll give you a decent sounding octave/fuzz sound.

However, before you decide, take a look at the video demonstration of the Joyo JF-12 Voodoo Octaver pedal in action.

Customer Review Rating

The Donner Digital Harmonic Square Octave Pedal has received an average rating of 4.3* out of 5 stars from 61 Amazon customer review.

Summary

The Donner Digital Harmonic Square Octave Pedal is an extremely compact, durable and versatile unit, all for under $50.

The unit has a toggle switch featured on the top of the interface, with three main settings, ‘sharp, detune and flat’. The setting picked via this toggle switch will dictate the effect that all of the other controls have on the output signal.

The Wet and Dry knobs control the balance of dry input signal (unaffected) with wet processed signal (affected) on output. And finally, the Modes knob dictates the harmony interval that is heard alongside the input signal, this can vary from semitones, whole notes and other harmonies such as fifths.

Therefore, the setting picked from the ‘Sharp, Detune and Flat’ toggle switch, will then directly inform the Modes knob on whether or not the harmony signal will be an upper, detuned or lower accompanying harmony.

Additionally, you can have two octaves (one above and one below) being sounded at the same time, on the ‘2 oct’ setting, which is a unique feature of the Donner Digital Harmonic Square unit.

The unit provides True Bypass, meaning that the input/output signal is not interfered with when the processor is disengaged.

So how exactly does it sound?

As you can hear from the video demonstration, the Donner Digital Harmonic Square unit is capable of producing a variety of different sounds, from more commercial sounding harmonies to some more unique, somewhat strange sounding accompaniments. What’s great is that this produces both upper and lower harmonies, and is the cheapest pedal in the list that not only offers this, but also other interval (fifths, semitones, tones) harmonies.

What would we improve?

Quite simply, this pedal is fantastic and provides such a variety of octave effects and other internal harmonies.

Therefore, we cannot make any recommendations here.

Who is this pedal for?

This unit is for the guitarist who not only wants a budget-priced guitar octave pedal, but also wants a pitch-shifter/harmonizer… Since it provides several other intervals of harmonies.

We think that Donner have done a great job in creating a great-sounding octave unit, which is compact, portable and highly affordable… Therefore if you’re on a budget of under $50, this is most certainly the best octave pedal for you!

Customer Review Rating

The CNZ Audio Octopus Octave Machine has received an average rating of 4.3* out of 5 stars from 61 Amazon customer review.

Summary

The Octopus Octave Machine by CNZ Audio does only one thing, it provides you with octave harmonies, and does so very well.

The unit is capable of creating both singular octave harmonies, above and below the input guitar signal, as well as providing the option to create simultaneous octaves (one above and one below). This all depends on the octave mode that is selected with the ‘Toggle Switch’ at the top of the interface, with there being 3 settings to choose between, octave ‘above’, ‘both’ and ‘below’.

The Octopus Octave unit also provides the user with dB gain knobs controlling the individual octave signals, especially useful if you want both octaves (upper and lower) to be sounding at the same time, but one of the octaves to be more present in the mix than the other.

Finally, the large ‘Dry’ knob controls the amount of dry input signal within the mix, so you that you have control over all of the output signals.

The unit provides True Bypass, meaning that the input/output signal is not interfered with when the processor is disengaged.

So how exactly does it sound?

As you can hear from the video demonstration, the unit sounds particularly good, although somewhat artificial, but fun sounding, as the unit processes the higher octave frequencies… This can definitely be an effect that some guitarists will love to play around with, giving their playing a unique edge.

We imagine you could get some really cool sounds playing this device in unison with a guitar reverb or delay unit.

What would we improve?

For the price, we think the Octopus Octave Machine really does sound great. It’s definitely a pedal which has a unique sound, especially when the upper octave frequencies are processed.

Therefore, we’re not going to make any improvement suggestions.

Who is this pedal for?

This unit is a fun looking, fun sounding octave pedal, perfect for the guitarist who wants to be able to create some synthesized-sounding octave accompanying harmonies.

Therefore if you like the price, the aesthetics, the features and how it sounds, then it’s most certainly for you!

However, before you decide, take a look at the video demonstration of the CNZ Audio Octopus Octave pedal in action.

Customer Review Rating

The Mooer MOC1 pure octave unit has received an average rating of 5* out of 5 stars from 1 Amazon customer review.

Summary

The Mooer MOC1 Pure Octave is exactly what is suggests, it’s entirely an octave processor, with that being its single function… And because of this, it’s able to do its job extremely well.

The unit itself is surrounded by a solid metal chassis for internal circuit protection, and is extremely small in size, making it very suitable for the guitarist with minimal space on their pedal board. Despite being small in size, this unit packs a lot of functionality into such a small space. With 11 different octave modes to choose from, and mixing/levelling controls for both the dry signal and 2 octave channels.

Let’s talk more about the 11 octave modes, as this unit is capable of processing up to a four octave range (+2 upper & -2 lower). Not only this, but this means that you’re able to use the different 11 octave modes to get the perfect setting for your requirement, with the potential to even achieve 4 octave harmonies playing simultaneously, which is incredible for a unit at this price-point. This is such a great selling point for this unit, and we’ve featured all of the 11 octave harmony settings below, so that you can see them first-hand, for yourself:

  • 1 upper, 1 lower
  • 2 upper, 1 lower
  • 2 lower, 1 lower
  • 1 upper, 2 lower
  • 2 upper, 2 lower
  • 2 upper, 1 upper
  • 1 upper, 1 lower, 2 lower
  • 2 upper, 1 lower, 2 lower
  • 1 upper, 2 upper, 1 lower
  • 1 upper, 2 upper, 2 lower
  • 1 upper, 2 upper, 1 lower, 2 lower

As you can see from the octave combination settings above, you are given an incredible amount of freedom, which makes this unit perfect for almost any guitarist.

Additionally, the ‘Dry’ knob controls the amount of dry input signal within the mix, so you that you have control over all of the output signals.

The unit provides True Bypass, meaning that the input/output signal is not interfered with when the processor is disengaged.

So how exactly does it sound?

As you can hear from the video demonstration, the Mooer Pure Octave pedal really provides a high quality octave effect, not sounding too artificial on the upper or lower frequencies when the octave harmonies are engaged.

With that being said, we advise that you construct your signal chain to be arranged in a way where the output signal of the Pure Octave unit eventually gets EQ’d, especially if you’re looking to use this for the lower octave settings, as we think that it’s only natural for the bass to get a little messy (this is natural and happens with bass guitars too)… If you haven’t got an EQ unit, take a look at our recommended Guitar EQ Pedals.

Other than this, we think that the upper octave range sounds wonderfully bright and really hits the sweet-spot of our personal preference! However, if you’re a guitarist who likes to really push the high-end with shrieking, overdriven guitar solos, we recommend that the EQ unit is a must!

What would we improve?

Quite simply, this unit is perfect! And we’re surprised that more people haven’t purchased it on Amazon and left a review. However, from the limited rating/review status, it has received a 5-star review so far.

Therefore, we’re not going to make any improvement suggestions.

Who is this pedal for?

This unit is for the guitarist who’s after octave freedom, and a compact, well-built and an awesome unit that will deliver high quality octaver effects! Simply put if you’re putting for octave altering guitar effects, then this is the unit for you.

Can you tell that we like this unit?

However, before you decide, take a look at the video demonstration of the Mooer Pure Octave pedal in action.

Customer Review Rating

The Valeton OC-10 has received an average rating of 4.1* out of 5 stars from 3 Amazon customer review.

Summary

The Valeton OC-10 is incredibly similar to the Boss OC-3 pedal (which we’ve featured later on in this list), especially in visual design, but a little smaller, with less functionality… But still a high level of sound quality. Although it has slightly less functionality than others, it’s definitely more than just a pitch shifter.

The OC-10 is capable of producing two octave harmonies, 1 upper and 1 lower octave, and these can be heard simultaneously (optional) as there are 3 knobs controlling the upper octave, lower octave and dry signal levels.

The signal path is made up 100% analog circuitry, which gives the pedal a really warm tone.. Which not only sounds great when heard on a clean setting, but also when utilized with an overdrive effect, helping provide the sound characteristics of a tube amplifier.

The unit provides Buffered Bypass, meaning that the input/output signal may be slightly modified when the processor is disengaged, giving it a warm, analog sound.

So how exactly does it sound?

As you can hear from the video demonstration featured below, this unit adds a nice warm characteristic to the overall output guitar signal, also adding a lovely smooth level of compression.

What would we improve?

These octave pedals are essentially a smaller version of the Boss OC-3, and when taking all aspects into consideration, including the price, functionality and physical attributes, there’s not much that we can say that needs improving!

Who is this pedal for?

For the analog lover! This unit provides a warmth that some other (more budget-priced and digital octave pedals) simply cannot provide.

Therefore if you’re a fan of this tone, physical construction and features available, this may be the octave pedal for you

However, before you decide, take a look at the video demonstration of the Valeton OC-10 in action.

Customer Review Rating

The Electro-Harmonix Octavix Octave Fuzz unit has received an average rating of 4.6* out of 5 stars from 16 Amazon customer review.

Summary

The Electro-Harmonix Octovix Fuzz is primarily a fuzz pedal, capable of delivering a 1960’s, vintage-style fuzz tone that other guitarists will envy. Not only this, but the unit also provides a harmonic accompaniment 1 octave above the input signal

The octave pedal itself has three main knobs, which control the volume, octave level and boost (fuzz). Additionally to these controls, there is a toggle switch, which allows the user to change the voltage amount from 9V (standard) to 24V… Which in turn changes the tonal characteristics of the entire pedal, giving it a more aggressive sound.

The unit provides True Bypass, meaning that the input/output signal is not interfered with when the processor is disengaged.

So how exactly does it sound?

As you can hear from the video demonstration featured below, these octave pedals can really add a nice level of fuzz, and additionally some wonderful sounding octave harmonics! Ideal for any lead/soloing guitarist

What would we improve?

This unit has scored an average rating of 4.6/5 from over 16 customer ratings, and hence it’s been able to achieve this level of customer satisfaction because there really isn’t much bad to say about it.

Customer Review Rating

The TC Electronics Sub ‘N’ Up Mini Octaver unit has received an average rating of 4.3* out of 5 stars from 10 Amazon customer review.

Summary

The TC Electronics Sub ‘N’ Up Mini Octaver pedal is the ‘little brother’ in the Sub ‘N’ Up octaver range, to the larger unit that we’ve featured later on in this article.

As for this mini-sized octave pedal, well before going into detail, let’s just say that it provides an immense amount of functionality for such a physically small unit, and don’t be mistaken by the simplicity of the interface, this pedal offers a lot of personalization options via TC Electronic’s TonePrint functionality. Ok, but let’s not skip ahead of ourselves now!

The octave pedal itself has three main control knobs, Dry, Sub and Up, which control the levels of the dry, sub-octave and upper-octave signal within the output mix.

However, where this unit really gets interesting is in the Advanced Polyphonic Octave Engine, which ensures for fast tracking, no matter if you’re playing single notes to intricate chords (I’m a big fan of this polyphonic octave engine). Additionally, it also has TonePrint Technology, meaning that you can synchronize this unit with your app on your mobile phone, and transfer tonal presets, to change the way in which the unit sounds… And the wonderful thing about this is, that there is a range of presets and octave effects to choose from.

Also, the unit has USB integration, which allows you to design and upload customized effects to the unit, from the free TonePrint editor (Compatible with OC, Mac and Ipad).

This octave pedal provides True Bypass, meaning that the input/output signal is not interfered with when the processor is disengaged.

So how exactly does it sound?

As you can hear from the video demonstration featured below, this octave pedal really provides a lot of clarity, especially on the upper octave frequencies. We were particularly impressed considering the sound quality, and range of available functions/presets that are available.

What would we improve?

Customer Review Rating

These Boss OC-3 Super octave pedals have received an average rating of 4.0* out of 5 stars from 59 Amazon customer review.

Summary

The Boss OC-3 super octave is considered the industry standard octave unit; Mainly due to the fact that is it created by Boss, one of the most well-known, reputable effects pedal providers around.

The Boss OC-3 super octave pedal is the newest version within the OC Series, following on from the OC-2 in 2006. Despite the updated technology, the Boss OC-3 still includes some of the best, most requested features of the previous unit, an example being the ‘Dual Octave’ effect, which is even stabler and more reliable in the Boss OC-3.

The Boss OC-3 octave pedals have been used by such artists as Van Halen & Tony Iommi, and therefore with such legendary guitarists using these octave pedals, it really speaks volumes about the level of quality that it provides.

As with most of Boss octave pedals, they’re build to last, and the Boss OC-3 super octave is no exception here. Not only this, but the unit also features an internal battery (included) so that you can use it without needing to plug it into a 9V power supply.

So how exactly does it sound?

As you can hear from the video demonstration featured below, the unit provides a decent quality octave functionality; However in our opinion, when taking the unit’s price-tag into account, we would prefer the TC Electronic Sub ‘N’ Up Mini Octave unit for sound quality and preset versatility.

What would we improve?

Since these octave pedals have been used by a series of experienced musical artists/guitarists, and has been around since 2006, it’s very hard to say what we would improve.

Potentially adding some digital elements like TC Electronics have with the Sub ‘N’ Up units may be beneficial for the next addition in the OC series; Helping create more personalization.

Who is this pedal for?

With a 5-year manufacturers warranty, and a metal chassis that resembles a military grade tank, it’s safe to say that the Boss OC-3 super octave is suitable for the gigging/touring musician, or any guitarist who wants a reliable octaver.

Additionally, this also works with Bass Guitar, making for a suitable bass octave pedal, so if instrument versatility is an important factor, this may be for you!

Summary

The TC Electronics Sub ‘N’ Up Octaver pedal is the ‘big brother’ in the Sub ‘N’ Up octaver range, to the mini unit that we’ve featured earlier on in this article.

As for these standard-sized octave pedals, well before going into detail, let’s just say that it provides an immense amount of functionality for such a physically small unit, and don’t be mistaken by the simplicity of the interface, this pedal offers a lot of personalization options via TC Electronic’s TonePrint functionality. Ok, but let’s not skip ahead of ourselves now!

The unit itself has four main control knobs, Dry, Up, Sub and Sub 2, which control the levels of the dry, upper-octave, sub-octave, sub-sub octave and upper-octave signal within the output mix. Yes this is capable of sounding three simultaneous octave harmonies, 1 which is an octave higher, 1 which is an octave lower, and another which is two octaves lower than the input signal frequency.

However, where these octave pedals really gets interesting is in the Advanced Polyphonic Octave Engine, which ensures for fast tracking, no matter if you’re playing single notes to intricate chords. Additionally, it also has TonePrint Technology, meaning that you can syncronize this unit with your app on your mobile phone, and transfer tonal presets, to change the way in which the unit sounds… And the wonderful thing about this is, that there is a range of presets to choose from.

Also, the octave pedal has USB integration, which allows you to design and upload customized effects to the unit, from the free TonePrint editor (Compatible with OC, Mac and Ipad).

These octave pedals provide True Bypass, meaning that the input/output signal is not interfered with when the processor is disengaged. Although, the unit itself has an optional buffered bypass mode which helps prevent high frequency loss from long cable runs.

So how exactly does it sound?

As you can hear from the video demonstration featured below, this unit really provides a lot of clarity, especially on the upper octave frequencies. We were particularly impressed considering the sound quality, and range of available functions/presets that are available.

What would we improve?

These octave pedals scored an average rating of 4.6/5 from over 16 customer ratings, and hence it’s been able to achieve this level of customer satisfaction because there really isn’t much bad to say about it.

Who is this pedal for?

This octave pedal would be ideal for anyone who wants to have a compact, portable polyphonic octave pedal, with the capability to edit and create customisable sound presets in the TonePrint editor software, for complete sound personalization. The benefit of the standard version over the ‘mini’ version is that it provide an additional sub octave channel (two octaves below the input frequency)

Customer Review Rating

The Electro-Harmonix Micro POG octave pedal unit has received an average rating of 4.3* out of 5 stars from 38 Amazon customer review.

Summary

The Micro POG by Electro-Harmonix is another addition to the POG octave pedals series, being the older brother to the ‘Nano POG’ and the younger brother to the ‘POG2’.

The Micro POG is based on the original POG unit, which was widely a-claimed as being a truly remarkable octaver unit. The Micro POG features the same circuitry, including flexible polyphonic tracking, featured in a more simplified physical unit.

The unit is housed in a tough, die-cast metal chassis, which is relatively small in size, and hence  able to be placed onto a pedal board with ease, so you can certainly take this unit on the road.

As for what the Micro POG is capable of, well it’s extremely versatile! Due to the advanced internal circuitry and ‘fast tracking’ processor, it’s able to process chords, arpeggios and single notes easily, and simultaneously provide the signal output, 1 octave above, and 1 octave below… All of which can be controlled by the three volume knobs on the front of the interface.

The Pedal has a Dry Output and an Effect Output, where the Dry output can be used to send the signal to a guitar amplifier, whilst the Effect Output could potentially be sent to a Bass amplifier… Popular for bands that may not have a bassist (2/3 piece bands).

Additionally, the Micro POG comes with the 9V power supply included, which is fantastic considering that most other octave pedal providers generally choose not to include this. So definitely a big plus for the micro POG.

So how exactly does it sound?

As you can hear from the video demonstration featured below, the processor doesn’t change the tonality of the input signal, which is fantastic because we want to let other pedals (such as an EQ, Distortion, etc) take care of this! Instead, the Micro POG octave pedal just provides high-quality octave processing!

The processor is able to track notes really well, and really does sound impressive.

What would we improve?

This unit has scored an average rating of 4.3/5 from over 38 customer ratings, and hence it’s been able to achieve this level of customer satisfaction because there really isn’t much bad to say about it.

One addition that the POG2 has (amongst many), which we think is particularly good, is the ability to save presets. Therefore, if you’re looking for that function, take a look at the POG2.

Who is this Octave pedal for?

The Micro POG is ideal for the guitarist who wants a dedicated, high quality octave processing unit, which is incredibly durable.

Customer Review Rating

The Electro-Harmonix POG2 octave pedal has received an average rating of 3.7* out of 5 stars from 21 Amazon customer review.

Summary

The POG2 by Electro-Harmonix is another addition to the POG series, being the older brother to the ‘Micro POG’ and the ‘Nano POG’.

The POG2 is based on the original POG octave pedal, which was widely a-claimed as being a truly remarkable octaver unit. The POG2 features the same circuitry, including flexible polyphonic tracking, featured in a more simplified physical unit. However, setting it apart from its younger brothers, it has a range of more advanced functionality, all of which we’ll discuss below, once we talk about the physical attributes.

These octave pedals are housed in a tough, die-cast metal chassis, which is a lot larger than the Micro and Nano shells. Therefore, although you can mount this on a guitar pedal board, we advise that you take a look at the measurements that we’ve set aside above, in the technical specifications section, and see if you have the required amount of space.

As for what the POG 2is capable of, well, we thought that the Nano and Micro POGs were extremely versatile, and this unit tops them both.

Yes, the POG2 has the same advanced internal circuitry and ‘fast tracking’ processor, it’s able to process chords, arpeggios and single notes easily, and simultaneously provide the signal output. However, it stands out against its younger brothers in its ability to produce up to 5 simultaneous octaves at any one time (including the dry output).

Additionally, these octave pedals has an Octave Effect section, which can be used to adjust the output signals ‘attack’, ‘filtering (low-pass)’ and ‘detune (tuning)’.

One of our favourite aspects of the POG2, setting it apart from its baby brothers is the ability to save presets. It features 8 fully programmable preset banks, which can easily be referred to with the click of a foot-switch.

Additionally, the POG2 octave pedal comes with the 9V power supply included, which is fantastic considering that most other pedal providers generally choose not to include this (although this is may be subject to change)

So how exactly does it sound?

As you can hear from the video demonstration featured below, the processor doesn’t change the tonality of the input signal, which is fantastic because we want to let other pedals (such as an EQ, Distortion, etc) take care of this! Instead, the Nano POG just provides high-quality octave processing!

The processor is able to track notes really well, and really does sound impressive.

What would we improve?

This unit simply has nearly everything you would possibly require from a guitar octaver, the only slight improvement we would make is to have 2 outputs, the dry output and octave effect output… Similarly to the smaller ‘Micro’ and ‘Nano’ POGs. This provides guitarists with more signal routing options, which may in turn help, from a creative perspective.

Who is this Octave pedal for?

The POG2 is ideal for the guitarist who wants an ultra-high quality, durable octave unit; Which can provide up to 5 simultaneous octave channels, internal filtering and optional EQ/Signal processing.

However, before you decide, take a look at the video demonstration of the Electro-Harmonix POG2 in action.
